Next on StacheD, indoor BESS burns down affordable housing complex and smolders for 2 weeks.
BESS isn't inherently bad, but needs to be treated with respect. LFP packs need continuous igniters and NMC packs need combustibles-free clearance, and both need deflagration gases ventilation.
There press release mentions that these are lithium batteries, which have significant failure mode issues, and a 'proprietary', BMS (battery management system), which sounds dubious at best, smells like fake pattenting, settings. The worst is the batteries are spread out into 7 locations, and zero mention of saftey and fire supression, and how they are 'proving' there ideas are sound. Another issue is flamboyant (almost defiant) virtue signaling and green labeling.
All the hallmarks of people pulling a fast one, and dont want anyone looking at there work while they work up to do it again.
ie: without seeing anything ,it looks like they have stuffed container batteries of the same type involved in some serious incidents, in parking garages and are trying to green wave it all to the side.
> these are lithium batteries, which have significant failure mode issues
Agreed. Specifically, these are lithium-ion rather than the new lithium iron phosphates which have none of those issues. No one should be doing lithium-ion for new installations. Lithium ions are only viable in cars which need the lower weight limits.
